This case settled very fast....Nobody wanted the public to know about the computer system.....No trial....how Police Officers have access to it and what can be done with it.

Barry Finch, 55, is charged with 18 misdemeanor counts
The infractions are alternative ways of charging the misdemeanors, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
If convicted, Finch faces up to six months per charge. 9 YEARS JAIL
NO BAIL...own recognizance.
Probation for former officer
A retired Redwood City police officer who illegally used the state criminal computer system ( GREAT BOOK The Octopus the death of Danny Casolaro describes the computer system.) last year to track his estranged daughter’s boyfriend was immediately sentenced to two years probation and 50 hours public service after pleading no contest to two counts.
This Redwood City Police Officer had no bail for 18 misdemeanor counts.
District Attorney reduced 18 to 2 counts no time served.

No bail and no time, huh? But he's a former law officer. Imagine what you or I would get sentenced to if we tried to pull the same stunt.

It's nice to have friends in high places, isn't it ?

He was a Redwood City Police until the day he was caught. He then retired.
His 18 misdeanors would equal 9 years in jail. I forget the $ amount per count
could be $1,000 X 18...

Doesn't matter James P. Fox and Steve Wagstaffe reduced the 18 to 2....

seems like cops can do no wrong in this county.

Under the leadership of these two that seems to be a fair statement.

I'll find the article where Steve Wagstaffe stated that the Sheriff's Deputies are under no obligation to talk to the DA'S Investigators.....That case had to do with the death of a citizen...Flashlights to his head.....

Why on earth would our Deputies not have to talk to DA Investigators?

Sorry, 24 counts is the right number not 18.......24 reduced to 2

James P. Fox, Morley Pitt, and Steve Wagstaffe found it to be in the best interest of the PUBLIC to dismiss 22 counts against this Redwood City Police Officer.... they were able to have this case go though the court system in less than 45 days.....That is FAST.

The flashlights to his head was largely unsubstantiated and did not have anything to do with the cause of his death. Please stop spreading untruths.

The Flashlight hits to the head are not the story here.
San Mateo County Sheriff Deputies Jason Peardon and Josh Chilton refusing to talk to San Mateo County District Attorney Investigators is.

As a result of their unwillingness to be interviewed, the investigation was limited to statements from other witnesses. We were not able to review a candid account of the facts from the two deputies most knowledgeable about the incident, Fox stated in a letter to Sheriff Don Horsley.

Chilton and Peardon were first on scene and both admittedly struck Cazares with flashlights but the force was deemed acceptable.

Flashlights are an impact weapon and may be used legally in the escalation of force. Even law enforcement officers are entitled to the fifth amendment.

I'm all for flashlights as weapons,

We all are entitled to the fifth amendment.

These Deputies did not envoke the fith amendent did they? That was never mentioned in any article. It stated they refused to talk to the District Attorney's Investigators, so Jim Fox closed the case.

What would have happened to two ordinary citizens if they refused to talk to the DA'S Investigators?

They'd be smart. The way people get prosecuted for "lying to the police" makes you a real target if you say even the slightest thing wrong.
