Congratulations to Daily Journal reporter Heather Murtagh, who won the 2006 John Swett Award for Media Excellence for a series or single subject /theme for newspapers under 100,000 circulation. The award was won for Murtagh’s 2006 series “Great Grads” in which she highlighted accomplishments of certain high school graduates in the Daily Journal coverage area. The award was one of five granted in the state of California for newspapers with similar circulations.
Last year, Murtagh won a certificate of merit for her story “Technology gap shrinks.”
Both stories were nominated by Craig Childress of the San Mateo Union High School District Teachers’ Association. The John Swett Awards honors excellence in education reporting.
