The Daily Journal is fortunate to have a dedicated corps of readers who are more than willing to point any error of fact, usage or grammar on our pages. Some might find the suggestions irritating, but we actually like it. It keeps us on our toes.
However, today we received a certain amount of calls regarding our headline, "Sea change for Emerald Hills Association" regarding a major organizational shift for the group. One gentleman complained that the neighborhood was nowhere near the sea and another woman thought we had meant to print "See change."
But no, we meant "sea change" which is a reference first made in Shakespeare's "The Tempest" referring to the role the sea had in transforming Ferdinand's father. Here is the direct quote from Ariel:

Full fathom five thy father lies:
Of his bones are coral made:
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.

Perhaps some of our readers were sick that day in 10th grade literature.
Anyway, thanks to those readers who got the reference.

Jon,

Could you please have the San Mateo Daily Journal publish a Photo of Carlos Alberto Ordonez. You will recall he is a 23 year old man who was caught by a South San Francisco Police officer having sexual intercourse with a 15 year old girl in his car. The 15 year old child was a ward of San Mateo County.

He was at the time of arrest a San Mateo County Probation Department Employee. So far our Sheriff Greg Munks is not allowing his booking photo to be released.

A follow-up story on Man Chin Cheung would be nice. You will recall she was killed while in the crosswalk on October 3, 2006 in San Mateo. The car that killed her was on top of her, the driver was there, did not leave the scene.
The San Mateo Police Department have refused to identify the name of the driver for some reason.
Who was the driver?
What happened to the body? Was is shipped back to British Columbia?
Is it still in the possession of our Coroner Robert Fourcrault?
Was there a funeral or Services?

Why was the driver's name protected by the San Mateo Police Department?

I believe these to be LOCAL Newsworthy stories.

I Thank You in advance.

Michael

Jon,

What part of my request can the San Mateo Daily Journal NOT DO?

You can't tell us what happened to the body of Man Chin Chueng?

I went to myspace and searched for one Carlos Ordonez......looking for a 23 year old who lives in Ca. I found one who just happened to stop communicating at the same time of the arrest. I don't know if this is the same Carlos Ordonez that was arrested by SSF Police or not. I will know tomorrow when he is in court.

We do not believe a follow up to the accident is news worthy since no crime was committed.

As far as the other issue, we are working on it.

Thanks for your interest.

Jon,
Here is a copy of the story the San Mateo Daily Journal wrote 10/05/06
http://www.smdailyjournal.com/article_preview.php?id=65139&eddate=10/05/2006

In your article the dead woman was never even identified.
The two other victims who went to Stanford Hospital..Not Identified
The Driver was Not Identified.

I'm not saying a crime was committed here, But how would anybody know with such non information. Has the San Mateo Police Department made a final statement on this case that no crime was committed? I'm not aware of such a statement.

Some people I've talked to want to know what happened to the dead woman's body? She was from out of Country, possibly no relatives here, etc.

I understand you get lots of requests to cover all kinds of subjects.

Thanks for looking into this, and the other issue...Photo of Carlos Ordonez
