Time to replace the San Mateo City Council
In the past seven years, road quality in San Mateo has gotten much worse. Currently, San Mateo has over 35 miles of failed roadway. Simple patching won’t fix these streets. The road foundations are crumbling and require complete replacement at a cost of over $1,000,000 per mile. There are many more miles of roads in the city in need of both major & minor repair. The City Council says the city doesn’t have the money to fix them…
Yet while our streets crumble, the City Council is planning to build themselves a new City Hall!
There’s nothing wrong with the existing city offices. Obviously Mayor Matthews & the City Council think spending YOUR tax dollars on plush, new offices for themselves is more important than maintenance of our city streets!
Have you tried parking downtown recently? The parking problem downtown is worse than ever, especially in the evening and weekends. This same group promised us that parking would improve when they implemented the downtown “renovation” five years ago… Remember their solution? Expensive valet parking! Guess that’s great if you are a rich, local politician. Of course, if they locate the new City Hall in the downtown area, the Mayor & Council-members will have “reserved” parking places available 24/7. Imagine that…
The City Council promised to solve the parking issue when they “forced” the downtown theatre project down our collective throats. Did you know they refused to acknowledge a legal petition requesting the residents of San Mateo be allowed to vote on the theatre project? That’s not democracy, it’s tyranny, and is certainly NOT representative of good city government!
And there’s more… After the worst particulate pollution winter in 20 years, ignoring health risks to residents and a recommendation by Senator Leland Yee, the City Council still refuses to adopt a clean air ordinance on wood smoke pollution.
By their actions, Mayor Matthews & the City Council have clearly demonstrated that they are NOT working for the benefit of San Mateo’s residents. They would rather spend your tax dollars on new city offices for their own comfort & benefit. Its ego-narcissism at it’s worst.
They have not delivered on their promises. It’s very clear that the Mayor & City Council don’t care if you can find parking downtown. It’s also clear that they don’t care about your health or the environment.
It’s far past time for some new blood in City Hall. The Mayor and City Council appear to only be interested in their own agendas, and are NOT working for your best interests.
It’s time to send a message. This November, exercise your power. Replace these incumbent “politicians” and their ego-centric agendas with someone new that still believes in “public” service.
Cast your vote AGAINST Mayor Matthews & former mayor Mr. Lee. Vote them out. Show them the door. It’s in your own best interest and best for San Mateo.
