Lets put it in perspective. Especially for those sports fanatics and ticket purchasers of sporting events.

Barry Bonds signs a one year contract for $14 Million Dollars and we won't even mention the $5 Million Dollar incentive bonus that is added on to that if he performs well. Lets compare how long it would take a fairly high paid employee to make this type of compensation in the real world.

At $75,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 186 years 9 months to match Barry's single season salary.
At $100,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 140 years to match Barry's single season salary.
At $175,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 80 years to match Barry's single season salary.

Lets look at what Barry Zito just turned down from the Mets. A 5 year contract worth $73 Million Dollars. Lets see what it would take an average person to match his compensation

At $75,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 973 years 4 months to match Barry's Five season salary
At $100,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 730 years to match Barry's Five season salary.
At $175,000 yearly salary, it would take someone 486 years 9 months to match Barry's Five season salary.

Don't you think its about time we start to boycott. Stop purchasing sporting event tickets and turn off the boob tube when any professional sporting events are on. Roscoe Beedle thinks teachers are cry babies and are overpaid.

Actually, I thought Barry got 16 mil...

The thing is, you'll never get enough people to go along with this. And turning off the TV will only hurt PG&E, not the athletes. In fact, it would take a long time, if ever, to effect the athletes, even if a large amount of people stopped going to games. They get paid whether fans show up or not.

They are entertainers. They get paid what the market will bear. If their employers (the owners) want to pay them that much, there's nothing we can do about it.

Look how much actors make. $10 or $20 million for one movie! (Whether it's good or not, and whether or not anyone goes to see it).
Look at all those talentless pop stars that are rolling in millions.
Teachers are NOT overpaid. If Roscoe thinks they have it so good, why doesn't he become one? Easier to become a teacher than a pro athlete.

Never did I say teachers are overpaid. The problem rests with the administration of this educational system. It's too top heavy, duplicitous. I don't even know for sure what they pay teachers. I would cut the admin in half and pay them more. The money should be in the classroom.

I have a kid who nearly made it in the pro's(football-Miami). Two years. They didn't pay him very much that's for sure. Just lots of fun and travel. He makes the big bucks now in a software-communication firm in Dallas.

Ok, that's different.

As for the kid, I'd take less money to stay in the Bay Area, rather than big money in Dallas. :)

Tell me about it. I visited there a few times. he dosen't like it much either. But young guys have to go where the good jobs are. And you should see his house. It's just outside of Dallas. Looks like an Atherton Mansion. He's 26 and has enough furniture for two rooms. But three big screens plasmas and an ATV to go to the store. You just cannot do that here.
Have a Merry Christmas. All my new friends, Nicola,Ghafez,2smart,the Stogner, some of the others and the Admin for allowing me to have such fun arguing.
