Three weeks ago I was completely disgusted in the Niners preparation for the Chicago game.
It appears they were upset with that effort as well. Since then, the Niners are on a roll having won three straight. The defense, that was torched for 40 points or more in three of their first seven games, is allowing only 10 points per game over the last three contests.
The offense goes in fits and starts, but with Frank Gore running, the Niners are at least controlling the clock.
As bad as things looked three weeks ago, is how good they look now. I said after the Niners first preseason game against Chicago that the Niners had a shot at 8-8. With six games left, they're 5-5, are one game behind Seattle in the NFC West and are in the wild card mix as well.

Three weeks from now, you will be disgusted again.

So the Niners beat a series of weak teams. Now they're playoff bound? Bandwagon much, people?

My prediction is another losing streak begins this weekend in St Louie.

Weak teams? Seahawks are in 1st place, and were NFC Champs last year.
Only 12 teams have a better record than the Niners right now. Who knows what will happen? They're the best football team in the Bay Area, anyway.

Why people even care about this, I'll never understand.

Well here we are 3 weeks later, Diamond Dog was right on!
I am officially back off the bandwagon.
More suspect than ever regarding the Smith draft pick, with what we see our castoff, Garcia doing with Philly, could have kept him awhile and got
that kid from USC who looked OK against the SEABIRDS. Seems to have more savy after only a few games than Smith may ever have?
Then there is Young with the Titans not doing badly EH, and maybe we could have held on a couple more years with Jeff (most passing yards in a year) Garcia and had a chance at Brady Quinn this year.
Who knows?

Niners got screwed Sunday. Very poor officiating (and timekeeping).

...and some very stupid throws by Alex Smith.

Gore is the man. He is awesome. Alex Smith showed up Thursday night and the Niners win the game. Excellent!!!!

Agreed. Seems this team needs some tweaking with a few more players and a tighter offensive scheme. But I like what Nolan has done here. You do see discipline (his forte') and some real effort. One has to only look at the disarray in Oakland to appreciate what discipline can bring to a team with young players.

I recall the detractors slamming Alex Smith last year. Nolan did something very shrewd - give him experience, stick with him. It is starting to show now, he is much more relaxed and the team is coming around him. Alex Smith was a standout on a small college team. But he did well because of his familiarity with the other players and what he had to face each week. Given the same at this level he should be able to be effective for years to come...

And then Gore is just flat out awesome at the moment.
