OK, can we now end the discussion about the worst team not only in the Bay Area but in the NFL?
Despite being panned by the national media, some media members in the Bay Area continued to believe that the Raiders were a better team than the Niners. Despite nearly every national writer and betting line predicting a Niners' win, a couple of local writers continued to pick the Raiders. One suggested last week that the Raiders, with Andrew Walter, would win by 6 while another suggested in Sunday's paper that the Raiders would win by 3.
On what criteria are they making these predictions? Have the Raiders shown any inkling of beating anyone? Have they done anything well offensively this season?
I continue to hear the Raiders have better talent. Other than MAYBE Randy Moss (and I can make a case Antonio Bryant is the better receiver right now), who on the Raiders' offense is better than the Niners? Is LaMont Jordan better than Frank Gore? No. Is any receiver other than Moss better than the Niners' wideouts? No. Is Andrew Walter better than Alex Smith? As of now, no.
Defensive, the Raiders may be a bit better -- they stuffed the Niners twice on 4th and inches Sunday -- but the Niners came up with five turnovers -- four interceptions and a fumble.
Until the Raiders beat someone, they are the worst team in the Bay Area and the NFL. Correct that, they're the second worst football team in the Bay Area. They could probably handle Stanford.
