I am responding to Councilman Jeff Ira’s letter “Support for incumbents, former councilwoman” (in the Oct. 24 edition of the Daily Journal). We have a very mature council, and with the expected re-election of Vice Mayor Jeff Gee and Councilmember John Seybert, we will have six of seven members of the council with several years experience. Diane Howard does, indeed, have similar experience to the current councilmembers and it is valuable experience. But, Redwood City is entering into a new age. We are building rapidly to keep up with our steady growth, and I am sure we will have new challenges that the current council is not yet familiar with. The time is not to stand but to move forward, and that requires a constant influx of new ideas that come from people with a vision for the future as well as an understanding of the past. This is the reason why I am supporting Ernie Schmidt for Redwood City Council.
