Giovanni A. Bana
May 19, 2017, 05:00 AM

Giovanni A. Bana, 93, died May 15, 2017, with his family by his side. Born Sept. 29, 1923, in Tirano, Italy, to Maria and Giovanni the only brother to Maria, Elvira and Carolina.

He married Cesarina on Dec. 15, 1946, and they had their first son Mario the following year. In search of a better life for his young family, Giovanni took them to Argentina where his second son was born in 1952 and they lived for 26 years. In 1976, they followed their sons to California and settled into their final home in Belmont.

Giovanni worked for many years as a mason with his son Cesar. Many homes on the Peninsula still display his brick work.

After retirement, he spent his time tending to his house and garden, especially his grape vines, playing cards and going for long drives in the country. He had a love for music, and could often be heard singing aloud to himself. His family will never forget his easy-going, gentle nature.

He is survived by Mario and Nancy Bana, granddaughters and spouses Veronica and Ty Cademartori, Michelle and Steve Agelopoulos, Maryann Bana, and great grandchildren Johnny, Vicki, Giovanna and Sofia.
