Small fire at Redwood City elementary school
May 02, 2014, 05:00 AM

Redwood City firefighters put out a fire that started in an air-conditioning unit of a portable classroom on the John Gill Elementary School campus Thursday afternoon, according to Redwood City Fire Marshal Jim Palisi.

The fire was first reported at 4:30 p.m. and was quickly extinguished once fire personnel arrived on the scene at 555 Avenue Del Ora, Palisi said.

There were employees and children in the building for an after-school program at the time but they were evacuated safely, Palisi said.

“They pulled the fire alarm,” he said. “They did everything they were supposed to.”
