Jewelry salesman robbed of gems at gunpoint

SAN CARLOS — A jewelry salesman was robbed of gems in San Carlos at gunpoint on Friday evening, San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said the armed robbery occurred at about 5:55 p.m. in front of Geoffrey’s Diamonds and Goldsmith located at 626 Walnut St., about two blocks from the San Carlos Caltrain station.

The victim, a 43-year-old jewelry salesman had arrived at the store in possession of a case of gems. While he was crossing the street, at least one masked suspect confronted him and brandished a silver semi-automatic pistol, deputies said.

The suspect demanded the victim’s case containing the jewels. The suspect grabbed the case and fled toward three other masked suspects waiting inside a newer model, silver Honda Pilot with paper plates, according to deputies.

The suspect vehicle headed south on Walnut Street and has not been located, deputies said.
