Son charged with attempted murder
February 05, 2014, 05:00 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

Keith Miller

A Montara man who prosecutors say threatened and strangled his mother while under the influence of drugs Friday night was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and ordered to stay away from her.

Keith Christopher Miller, 25, was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, trying to dissuade a victim from reporting a crime and obstructing an officer. He asked for a court-appointed attorney and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Miller after responding to a domestic violence call just before midnight Jan. 31 on the 900 block of Cedar Street. Officers said the woman claimed her adult son was high and strangled her while threatening to kill her before breaking free and running to a neighbor’s home. Miller reportedly fled on a dirt bike into a wooded area and deputies found him a couple hours later back at the family home. Deputies had to break a window pane to unlock the deadbolt after he Miller allegedly yelled incoherently and refused to open the door.

Deputies finally took Miller into custody using a K-9 unit.

Miller’s mother was treated for neck bruising but refused hospitalization.

At Miller’s initial felony arraignment Tuesday, a judge ordered Miller held without bail and scheduled him back to court Feb. 11 to identify his attorney.
