Fraudsters threaten woman with group of assassins
January 24, 2014, 05:00 AM

South San Francisco police are warning of an email or text scheme after a woman received several suspicious text messages that said someone contracted a group of assassins to murder her.

On Wednesday afternoon, the woman received the texts from a number she did not recognize. The sender said they knew where she lived, were conducting surveillance on her and would cancel the assassination contract if she sent $50,000, according to police.

She did reply and instead contacted the police.

The area code was 872, associated with the Chicago area. She did not know anyone from that area, according to police.
