Woman charged with DUI, child endangerment following crash that injured infant son
January 22, 2014, 05:00 AM

A woman who allegedly caused a crash in Menlo Park that injured her boyfriend and her 16-month-old son appeared in San Mateo County Superior Court Tuesday, a deputy district attorney said.

Carina Sandoval, 26, Tuesday pleaded not guilty to felony child endangerment, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, and hit-and-run causing great bodily injury, Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti said.

Sandoval, who was driving on a suspended license in connection with a pending DUI case, allegedly turned left in front of an oncoming vehicle in an intersection at Bayfront Expressway and Chrysler Drive at about 8:35 p.m. on Friday, Guidotti said.

Sandoval, her boyfriend and her infant son had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders, according to police.

All three were hospitalized with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening, police said. The 16-month-old was treated and released to relatives.

The occupants of the victim's vehicle were not injured.

Sandoval was hospitalized until Monday, when she was released to police custody and booked at San Mateo County Jail.

She remains in custody on $250,000 bail, and is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in Redwood City on Feb. 3.
