S.F. police fire at suspect during high-speed chase
January 01, 2014, 05:00 AM The Associated Press

Police in San Francisco say one officer was injured and a man is in custody after officers opened fire on the suspect during a wild high-speed chase across the city.

Police say the incident began shortly before 9 p.m. Monday in the Bayview District when officers attempted to pull over a man they suspected had a weapon in a rental car with Nevada license plates.

A chase ensued through the city before ending near Golden Gate Park.

Deputy Chief Lyn Tomioka says police shot at the suspect after he hit an officer on foot. The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital and released.

The suspect, who tried to run away, was arrested and taken to the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
