Dead man found in Daly City building

Construction crews renovating a former Daly City retail store arrived at work Friday morning to find a dead man’s body at the site.

The man was identified as 48-year-old Daniel Eugene Price of Atherton, said Coroner Robert Foucrault.

Price’s body was found on the 300 block of Gellert Boulevard in a business plaza with several retail outlets, including several that are currently vacant like a Sports Authority and Office Depot. The construction crew arrived for work at 7 a.m. and police officers were dispatched at 7:05 a.m.

Detectives are withholding exactly when the last time somebody was in the building before discovering the body Dec. 27.

Daly City police are not ruling out any possibility of how the man died or why he was at the location, including the theory he was a burglar that fell or otherwise trespassing, Sgt. Harold Rolfes said.

“At this point, anything is a possibility,” Rolfes said.

Rolfes said he hoped to have more information over the weekend and Foucrault said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning to determine cause of death.
