Community college accreditation forum today
November 07, 2013, 05:00 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, state Sen. Jim Beall, D-San Jose, and community college leaders will discuss the effect that the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges has had on schools, faculty and students and ways to improve the process.

In July, it put City College of San Francisco on notice that it may revoke its accreditation next summer due to alleged violations of the accreditation standards. Two additional colleges, College of the Sequoias in Visalia and Northern Marianas College in Saipan, have also been placed on “show cause,” the most severe sanction. Solano Community College is “on warning,” the least severe sanction. At the same time, agency is currently subject to a state audit and a U.S. Department of Education review of its practices.

The event takes place 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. today at City College of San Francisco’s Diego Rivera Theatre, 50 Phelan Ave. in San Francisco.
