Glee guitarist Derik Nelson and his band will be coming to Mills High School to help raise money for their high school arts programs through a live pop/rock concert.

This concert is part of Nelson’s Take Chances Tour, providing high schools the opportunity to raise money through ticket sales for his shows.

Mills High School’s concert is 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Mills High School Theatre, 400 Murchison Drive in Millbrae. Tickets are $15, $22 and $30 and are available at millsmusic.org. For more information contact 619-3582.


The San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees will hold a dedication ceremony for the naming of Capuchino High School’s new performing arts center to Samuel Johnson Jr., a former superintendent with the district. The event is 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Capuchino High School, 1501 Magnolia Ave. There will also be hors d’oeuvres, music and a tour of the new center. Following the ceremony, the Capuchino High School Alumni Association is sponsoring a dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria and trivia contest. The cost is $10. Reservations can be made at wepay.com/events/battle-of-the-wits and tickets can also be bought at the door.


Through donations from parents, school staff, community members and students, the Millbrae Education Foundation raised more than $158,000 during the recent Donation Days event, a new record for the annual two-day fundraising effort.


The Sequoia High School Alumni Association announced it has awarded $5,312 to teachers at Sequoia High School under its annual “Cherokee Grants” program as well as $150 to the Cheer Team and $165 to the baseball program.


Carleton College honored Menlo Park’s Julia Morgan Jones and Woodside’s Emma Southgate for their accomplishments and service during the 2012-13 academic year.


Sequoia High School will perform, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” 7 p.m. Nov. 22-24. There will also be a Sunday matinee 3 p.m Nov. 24. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Advance tickets are available at showtix4u.com, by phone at (866) 976-8167 and at the door. The box office will open one hour before each performance.
