26-year-old charged for relationship with teen
June 28, 2013, 05:00 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

Prosecutors charged a 26-year-old Half Moon Bay man with three counts of child molestation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl he’d met a a dance the previous year.

Gregorio Padilla-Luis was 25 when he reportedly met the girl, then 12, in July 2012 and they dated for a year before the relationship was uncovered earlier this week. The girl allegedly snuck out of her home at 1 a.m. June 24, waking her father with the shutting door and sending the family searching for a half hour before they found her partially undressed in the back seat of Padilla-Luis’ truck. He told the girl’s father that he loved her, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The seven sexual incidents confirmed by the girl were always in Padilla-Luis’ truck and all were consensual, Wagstaffe said.

At his initial arraignment, Padilla-Luis pleaded not guilty to all charges and asked for a court-appointed attorney. He did not waive his right to a speedy trial and returns to court July 5 for a preliminary hearing estimated to last 30 minutes.

Bail was set at $300,000 and he remains in custody.

Daily Journal Quick Poll

What do you think of the recent White House decision to change the name of Alaska's Mt. McKinley to Denali?

It's good to go back to what most people in Alaska call it
Never thought about it
We should keep the name McKinley
It's OK, but would be nice to find a different way to honor McKinley
How about keeping both names?
