“Shamu” is a registered trademark of Sea World marine parks. The original Shamu was a killer whale taken into captivity in October 1965. Shamu lived at Sea World of California for six years before his death.

Marmaduke is named for the lovable Great Dane that stars in the strip. Odie is the dog that Garfield the cat has tormented since 1978. Daisy is the dog in Blondie. Blondie debuted in 1930. The comic strip used to center on Blondie, a carefree dancer. In 1933 Blondie married Dagwood and the comic strip has been about the Bumstead family ever since.
