Man wanted for propositioning girl, 15
February 19, 2014, 05:00 AM Daily Journal staff report

Suspect

San Mateo police are on the lookout for a man who solicited a teenage girl Tuesday morning in the unit block of North Claremont Street.

The victim, a 15-year-old San Mateo resident, was standing on the sidewalk when the suspect approached her from behind and spoke to her in Spanish, soliciting her for sex, according to police.

The victim refused the request, and was able to leave the area. San Mateo officers responded to the area of the incident at about 8:20 a.m., within a few minutes of the incident, and made a thorough check of the area for the suspect — a Hispanic male in his 40s wearing a dark heavy jacket and jeans, with dark hair and a thick moustache. The subject was about 5 feet 4 inches with a medium build, according to police.

He was not located, but officers were able to obtain video surveillance form a nearby store, and confirmed the man in the video was the suspect in this case. Both the victim and the store owner where the video was located told police that the suspect appeared to be heavily intoxicated, according to police.

Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call the San Mateo police at (650) 522-7700.
