Caltrain service fully restored after fatality
January 31, 2014, 05:00 AM Bay City News Service

Caltrain service has fully recovered after a woman was struck and killed by a train at the Redwood City station this morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The woman was struck at about 6:15 a.m. by Caltrain No. 305 on the northbound tracks at the station located at 1 James Ave., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

Following the death, Caltrain was only running trains on one track through the area, but all tracks reopened as of 11:20 a.m., Dunn said.

Train No. 305 had about 200 passengers on board and was not scheduled to stop at Redwood City. The train was eventually moved to the San Carlos station to allow the passengers to get off, then was taken to a maintenance facility in San Jose, Dunn said.

As of about 7 a.m., trains began single-tracking through the area on the southbound tracks but did not stop at the Redwood City station, according to Dunn. Bus shuttles were also taking passengers between the San Carlos and Menlo Park stations until about 10 a.m., she said.

Some Caltrain routes were canceled this morning and some trains were delayed by up to an hour, transit officials said.

The Redwood City station reopened as of about 9:50 a.m.
