BART officer fatally shot by fellow officer
January 21, 2014, 05:00 AM Bay City News Service

DUBLIN — A sheriff’s official says the Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer who was fatally shot Tuesday was accidentally killed by a fellow officer.

BART officials say the officers were conducting a probation search at a home in the East Bay city of Dublin when the shooting happened just after 1 p.m.

The officer who was shot was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. Alameda County Sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson confirmed to The Associated Press that another BART officer was the shooter and that the shooting was accidental.

BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey and BART General Manager Grace Crunican said in a joint statement that the officers’ identity and other details are not being released at this time.

The Dublin Police Department has taken over the investigation.
