November hearing for Skyline shooting victim
October 30, 2009, 03:33 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

The Skyline College student shot in the buttocks during a scuffle on the San Bruno campus will learn next month if he’ll stand trial on charges of being a gang member in possession of a handgun.

Prosecutors say Eric Douglas Brewer, 20, gave the gun to Germaine Bejamin, 18, who threw it in the trash after the incident in which his friend was shot.

Brewer has pleaded not guilty and returns to court Nov. 16 for a preliminary hearing.

Police believe an altercation between two groups preceded the Sept. 2 shooting, which prosecutors with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office are calling gang-related. Three other men were initially arrested for their alleged involvement, but prosecutors charged only Benjamin and Brewer in connection to the shooting.

Brewer remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail.
