County holds DV march, resource fair
October 23, 2009, 03:31 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

San Mateo County will commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month today with a march and resource fair in downtown Redwood City and with art displays at libraries throughout the county.

“We intend to send a clear message that we do not tolerate domestic violence in our community,” said Board of Supervisors President Mark Church who serves as chair of the San Mateo County Domestic Violence Council. “Equally important, we want victims of domestic violence to know they can break free from an abusive relationship and have the support and resources they need.

The march begins 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway, Redwood City. After brief remarks from Church, attendees will march through downtown before returning to the square to hear from domestic violence experts and learn about community resources for victims.

Throughout the month, also, libraries will display artwork around the theme of “Heal, Empower, Transform.” The displays are at:

• Canada College Library, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., building nine, third floor, Redwood City.

• Millbrae Library, 1 Library Ave., Millbrae.

• Serramonte Main Library, 40 Wembley Drive, Daly City.

• Fair Oaks Library, 2510 Middlefield Road, Redwood City.
