With the closing of the Bay Meadows race track, the San Mateo County Event Center announced the opening of the new Jockey Club Satellite Wagering and Sports Bar, the new neighbor of the Fairgrounds.

Days after the Bay Meadows race track closed, Peninsula horse racing fans got a chance to enjoy the sport again with the opening of the Jockey Club Satellite Wagering and Sports Bar Wednesday.

The simulcast racing moved Tuesday to the new 16,000-square-foot location where fans can continue to watch and wager on meets from around the world on over 125 screens.

The facility is projected to generate up to $1.3 million in annual revenue for the San Mateo County Event Center, and an estimated $200,000 in additional revenue to San Mateo County.

“The San Mateo County Event Center looks forward to continuing on a successful path through 2008 and beyond,” General Manager Chris Carpenter wrote in a prepared statement. “In addition to the activities and events we host on a year-round basis, we are thrilled to be the new premier destination for horse racing fans in Northern California.”

The bar is open at 10 a.m. daily, except Tuesdays, through August. It will feature night racing Thursdays through Sundays.
