A third tie-breaking doctor was appointed to determine the competency of one of two men arrested in connection with the armed robbery of two South San Francisco pedestrians and the takeover robbery of the Boys and Girls Club.
Curtis Commo, 26, has been in a state hospital after previously being deemed incompetent for trial but was returned in January after doctors there found him able to aid in his own defense. In June, his defense declared a new doubt and two doctors disagreed on his competency. The third report will come back Oct. 1.
If found competent, Commo will stand trial on charges of first-degree robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property. Co-defendant Saolepea Jean Liu, 25, pleaded no contest to three counts of robbery and admitted the use of a firearm in return for a 15-year prison sentence.
According to prosecutors, on Nov. 6, 2005 the men broke into the Boys and Girls Club at 201 W. Orange Ave. and shoved three custodians into a closet.
The suspects robbed one worker as they cleaned up after a bingo game, according to police.
The men were charged with both crimes after a routine traffic stop Nov. 11 turned up a gun used in the robberies and a cell phone from the first crime.
