Dead body found in pool
November 06, 2009, 03:48 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

A foul odor coming from the Hoover Park swimming pool turned out to be from a dead man floating in it, Redwood City police said last night.

On Thursday, officers were dispatched to the pool at 2100 Spring St. after a maintenance worker found the body under the pool cover while trying to determine the cause of the odor. The pool had been covered since July, when it was officially closed, police said.

There are no obvious signs of foul play, according to Redwood City police Sgt. Kathryn Anderson.

“It is too difficult to determine at this point,” she said.

Firefighters and medics also responded but it was apparent that the deceased had been there for some time and was in a state of decomposition. The coroner responded and took custody of the remains. There is no obvious sign of death, and no identification has been made.  The coroner will be scheduling an autopsy and will handle the release of information when an identification has been made, according to police.

The pool cover is approximately an inch and a half thick but simply lays across the pool without attaching to anything. There is a fence around the pool, Anderson said.

Anyone with information to please call the Redwood City Police Department at 780-7100.
