Groom guilty of assault
October 24, 2009, 03:30 AM Daily Journal Staff Report

A 26-year-old man accused of fighting with a manager at his golf course wedding reception was convicted Friday of battery, causing great bodily injury and obstructing police.

Carlos Alberto Carranza will be sentenced Jan. 8.

After Carranza married Dec. 29, 2007 at the Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame, prosecutors say he punched the golf course pub manager in the eye for no apparent reason after the man responded to noises in the ballroom. After police were called, Carranza reportedly fled the reception and was later located intoxicated at a residence by South San Francisco police who needed a Taser to restrain him as he fought arrest. The manager sustained serious eye injury and lost vision, according to the prosecution.

Daily Journal Quick Poll

What do you think of the plans of a small Florida church to burn the Quran on Sept. 11?

It's a disgrace.
It's their First Amendment right.
It's a disgrace and their First Amendment right.
Shouldn't we just ignore them?
