A substitute teacher at San Mateo High School was arrested on a $30,000 warrant Monday for what prosecutors say was an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student that involved hundreds of text messages, phone sex and improper touching.
John Oliver Jacobson, 44, was charged with two felonies, communicating with a minor with the intent of a lewd act and sending harmful matter with the intent of seduction. Jacobson is also charged with four misdemeanor counts of improperly touching a child.
Between May 22 and August, Jacobson and the girl exchanged more than 400 text messages and had phone sex, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
They also met once at a Foster City park, he said.
The girl is completely cooperative with the investigation and Jacobson admitted the activity during a pretext phone call, Wagstaffe said.

Jacobson, of San Mateo, was booking into the Maguire Correctional Facility late Monday night and appeared in court Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and asked for a court-appointed attorney. Bail was upheld at $30,000 and Jacobson remains in custody.
He returns to court Oct. 7 for a Superior Court review conference and Oct. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
If convicted, Jacobson faces approximately six to seven years in prison and registration as a sex offender.
